Introduction
In some cases, there is a requirement for other components to be installed in order to manage certain systems through Rove Mobile Admin. Please check if any systems that you would like to manage are listed below, and follow the instructions provided.
- BlackBerry Enterprise Servers
- Microsoft Exchange
- Windows Server 2008
- IBM Lotus Domino
- Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007
- Citrix (MetaFrame, Presentation Servers, XenApp)
BlackBerry Enterprise Servers
BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0.1 for Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Domino Servers
No additional tools or services are required to manage a BES 5.0.1, however, some configuration is necessary. Management is performed through the BlackBerry Administration Service (BAS).
The BlackBerry Administration Service (BES 5.0.1) support is not functional out of the box. Mobile Admin requires an additional configuration to properly detect the BlackBerry Administration Service. The default BAS port must be set in the BAS server object properties. To set the BAS port property, a Mobile Admin user would select the Manage Servers link on the Mobile Admin home page. Find the BAS server object on the list and select it to reach the icons list of detected services. The user then selects the Server Properties actions link, or menu option. The properties page includes a BAS port setting which can be set to the corresponding port. The default value of zero should be changed to the port number in use by the BlackBerry Administration Service.
Please Note: A BlackBerry Enterprise Server administrative roll must be assigned to each Mobile Admin user that will be responsible for managing the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express
No additional tools or services are required to manage a BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express, however, some configuration is necessary. Management is performed through the BlackBerry Administration Service.
The BlackBerry Administration Service (BESX 5.0.1) support is not functional out of the box. Mobile Admin requires an additional configuration to properly detect the BlackBerry Administration Service. The default BAS port must be set in the BAS server object properties. To set the BAS port property, a Mobile Admin user would select the Manage Servers link on the Mobile Admin home page. Find the BAS server object on the list and select it to get the icons list of detected services.
BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0.0 for Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Domino Servers
A BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0.0 is managed using the BlackBerry Administration Service. For Mobile Admin to interact with the BlackBerry Administration Service, the BlackBerry Administration API must be installed on the server running the BlackBerry Administration Service.
If you want to manage a BlackBerry enterprise Server version 5.0.0, download the BlackBerry Administration API from: http://na.blackberry.com/eng/developers/resources/adminapi.jsp
Install the BlackBerry Administration API onto the server running the BlackBerry Administration Service.
The BAS may or may not be running on the same computer as the BES. Rove Mobile Admin should be directed to the BAS (with the BlackBerry Administration API installed) to manage BES 5.0.0.
Please Note: A BlackBerry Enterprise Server administrative roll must be assigned to the Mobile Admin user that will be responsible for managing the BES.
BlackBerry Enterprise Server 4.0 or 4.1 for Microsoft Exchange Servers/Lotus Domino Servers/Novell GroupWise Servers
Download the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Resource Kit from:
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=D736BB10D83A904AEFC1D6CE93DC54B8
This link may require registration at RIM's site.
Ensure that you download the BES Resource Kit version corresponding to the version of your BES server. It is not necessary to install the entire resource kit.
Rove Mobile Admin makes use of only one tool from the resource kit, the BlackBerry Enterprise Server User Administration Service. Install the BlackBerry Enterprise Server User Administration Service onto the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
Here is a link to a knowledge base article outlining the common errors that occur when installing the BES User Administration Service: http://www.roveit.com/kb/activekb/questions.php?questionid=214
The following command can be used to test the BlackBerry Enterprise Server User Administration Service installation. Open a command prompt and navigate to the install directory for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server User Administration Service. Command: BESUserAdminClient -p yourpassword -stats -servers
Please Note: A BlackBerry Enterprise Server administrative roll must be assigned to the Mobile Admin user that will be responsible for managing the BES.
Microsoft Exchange
Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Exchange System Management Tools and the
Windows Administration Tools must be installed on the same computer as the
Mobile Admin Server. Use the corresponding version — 2003, 2007 — to your
Exchange server.
To manage Microsoft Exchange 2010, the following must be installed:
- The Microsoft Management Tools and their prerequisites need to be installed on the Mobile Admin Server.
Note: Cross-domain administration of Microsoft Exchange 2007 is not supported in Mobile Admin.
To manage Microsoft Exchange 2007, the following must be installed:- The Microsoft Exchange Management Tools (available on the Microsoft Exchange 2007 installation CD), also available from the Microsoft Technet site. Only the management tools need to be installed to the Mobile Admin Server.
- The Exchange Console tools require the Microsoft administration toolkit (adminpak.msi) for the underlying operating system.
Note: Cross-domain administration of Microsoft Exchange 2007 is not supported in Mobile Admin.
To manage Microsoft Exchange 2003, the following must be installed:
- The Microsoft Exchange System Management Tools (available on the Microsoft Exchange 2003 installation CD)
- The Windows 2003 Administration Tools are available on the Windows 2003 Server CD under: “...\I386\ADMINPAK.MSI” and are also available as a free download from the Microsoft Technet site
Windows Server 2008
In this configuration, the Mobile Admin users would have local administrator rights to the Mobile Admin Server. To install and to run the Mobile Admin Server on Windows 2008 Server, we recommend Windows 2008 Server Standard R2 with the application server role added. An additional configuration of the Mobile Admin Server is required for the occasional use of temporary files. Once the Mobile Admin Server is installed, log in with your Mobile Admin Administrator credentials and follow these steps:
- Select Configuration
- Select Options
- Select General
- Select Advanced Settings
- Enter AdminFolder as the Setting
- Select Get
- Enter the path to the desired folder as the value (for use with temporary files i.e. C:\Temp)
- Select Set
To manage and to support a Windows 2008 Server domain member, we assume the Mobile Admin users will have local administrator rights to the server they need to manage. Some Mobile Admin features require an adjustment for the use of temporary files on this host.
- Create a shared folder on the Windows 2008 Server to be managed
- Name the shared folder mobileadmintemp
- Adjust the permissions for the new shared folder to include all the Mobile Admin users that will need to manage the server. Some features of Mobile Admin will create and delete temporary files in this folder.
IBM Lotus Domino
To use Mobile Admin to manage IBM Lotus Domino 5.0 or later (partitioned or unpartitioned servers) the Mobile Admin Server software must be installed on the same computer as an IBM Lotus Domino 6.0 (or later) server. It is strongly recommended that you install the Domino server first, then install the Mobile Admin server on the same computer.
Note: Do not install the Mobile Admin Server on a partitioned Domino server or a computer that has the Domino Client installed.
Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007
In order to manage Operations Manager servers with Mobile Admin, the System Center Operations Manager 2007 SP1 Client Tools or the Operations Manager 2007 User Interface (32-bit) must be installed on the same machine as the Mobile Admin server. These tools are available from your System Center Operations Manager product CD/DVD.
Citrix (MetaFrame, Presentation Servers, XenApp)
To manage your Citrix sessions with Mobile Admin, you must install the Citrix WMI Provider on the Citrix MetaFrame or Presentation servers that you want to manage.
Note: The Citrix WMI Provider is not available for all Citrix Server license types. For example, for MetaFrame Presentation Server 4.0, you must be using an Enterprise license for the WMI provider to work.
