Management
John Criswick – Chief Executive Officer

John Criswick, founder of Rove, successful entrepreneur and industry visionary, provides strategic direction and leadership for the company. With a background in space technology and degrees in Electrical Engineering and Quantum Mechanics, John has always pushed the limits of technology.

John founded Beduin Communications in 1997 and built one of the first Java-based cell phone browsers, enabling mobile connectivity to the Internet for the first time. After selling Beduin to Sun Microsystems in 1998, John founded Rove (then Idokorro) and pioneered applications for handhelds such as remote over-the-air access to computers and mobile IT management. John also founded Magmic Games in 2002 to tap into the emerging market for mobile game development and publishing.

Russell Ure – President and Chief Operating Officer

Russell brings more than 20 years of experience to Rove, having served executive positions in Research and Development at Alcatel Networks, Klocwork and Rove, where under his leadership Rove established itself as a global leader of innovative mobile IT solutions.

Throughout his varied career, Russell has led a CAE Electronics team to develop a virtual battlefield simulation for the US Army Research Institute, managed the development of IBM's Visual Age for Basic product, and led the development of a market-leading Secure Private Networking product at TimeStep that was eventually acquired and integrated within Alcatel's networking portfolio. At Alcatel, Russell oversaw the activities of a development organization of several hundred developers and designers responsible for Alcatel’s Network Management product family.

Leadership

Sales and Business Development

Leading Sales and Business Development at Rove is Ryck Marciniak. Ryck has over 20 years of experience in sales strategy, customer service and business development. His responsibilities are to drive sales activity from quotes to maintenance, to address customers’ requests and to plan business development for Rove. Ryck was President for S&R Insights Inc., a consulting firm working on channels and specifically managed services for companies such as Intel and APC Schneider. His prior positions include Director of Business development for Level Platform where he forged strategic partnerships with more than 100 vendors, including Microsoft, Cisco, Google, HP, and Symantec. He also led the sales team as the National Sales Manager for Informix/IBM and successfully developed a multi-million dollar OEM business.

Research and Development

Matt Moore is an experienced software developer specializing in the .NET Framework and mobile solutions. Leading client software development for Rove as Director of Development, Matt oversees the design and development of native applications for a variety of mobile device platforms including BlackBerry, iPhone/iPad, Android and Windows Mobile. Staying true to his philosophy of letting customers shape the product, Matt can be frequently found communicating directly with users and technology partners. With Rove since 2007, Matt has played an instrumental role in Rove Mobile Admin’s integration with CA Service Desk, Microsoft System Center Operations Manager, Hyper-V and Exchange 2007/2010. Matt attended the University of Windsor where he earned degrees in Computer Science and Commerce.

With more than 20 years in a range of software development and technical management roles, Rob McAteer brings a wealth of skill and experience to his position managing server software development at Rove. Here since 2005, Rob’s meticulous approach to feature specification and implementation has led to the successful introduction of many new server modules including Novell EDirecotry, HP iLO, VMware, IBM Domino and Symantec Backup Exec and NetBackup. A keen innovator, Rob works directly with Rove’s technology partners in order to bring high-value functionality into the hands of users. Rob holds a Bachelor of Computer Science from Carleton University and a diploma in Electronics Engineering Technology from Algonquin College.

Quality Assurance

Leading the charge of Quality Assurance at Rove is Ian MacLeod, a passionate advocate for the end user. Ian dove into IT during his university years, completing projects in database integration and online system development, as well as working at the university’s technical support helpdesk. After making the move to Ottawa from Canada’s east coast, Ian worked as an independent IT consultant where his duties ranged from troubleshooting standalone computers to evaluating the complex requirements for networking and data management needed by his small businesses clients. Ian joined Rove in 2005 and is responsible for test planning and implementation. He also contributes to product requirements and assists with beta trials and the customer feedback loop. Ian holds a Bachelor of Information Systems from St. Francis Xavier University.

Customer Support

With unrelenting drive for closure, Kelly Fortin heads up the vital function of Customer Support for Rove. His education in Information Systems at Cambrian College complete, Kelly began his career as a helpdesk and desktop technician. He later moved on to manage IT for DLS Testworks (soon after becoming Spirent Communications’ Ottawa branch) where he managed strategic IT projects such as Firewall and VPN implementations and upgrades to network infrastructure. He also implemented the branch’s first BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) and migrated the email system to Microsoft Exchange. With Rove since 2007, Kelly is actively involved in pre-sale product demonstrations and in-person events, in addition to ensuring the satisfaction of every single Rove customer.
